You will be getting a lot more than just web space in return. You will be able to run whatever operating system you want – Linux, Red Hat, Windows, or others – and you will be able to essentially run whatever types of databases or programs you want as well.
This type of hosting solution is not for small companies or “one man bands” – it is for those who need full access to their server space, full security, and enormous bandwidth. It often takes one or more people to run a server such as this on a full-time basis, so before you abandon your shared hosting, make sure you have the human power to keep your dedicated server up and running all the time – or your company will suffer almost immediately.
